My understanding of a village derives from being raised by a community activist and preschool teacher. My parents always taught me that we are only as strong as our community. So, we must uplift those around us with our gifts. My mission in the work I do is to appreciate the craft, collaborate within my craft, and inspire others through the craft.
Thinking of the creative contributions of Detroit makes me grateful to call the city my home and inspires me to do more to further its artistic lineage through my work. Growing up in Detroit, I understand the cultural significance of the city's contribution to the arts. The community of artists presently working in the city inspires me. I am honored to call these artists my peers. The love within the artistic community has birthed a new spirit of creativity that can no longer be ignored. The devotion to the craft by artists from Detroit has brought about a renaissance that embraces new ideas while paying homage to the city's artistic roots.

As a means of contributing to Detroit's artistic legacy, I uplift the artists around me and the artists of the future in my creation of Mission a Detroit-based Media collective. Mission has been the conduit in how I use my talents to help elevate my fellow artists and grow in my discipline of film as well. My proudest achievements with Mission are two community screenings that featured both musical acts and visual artist galleries. The first of which was called the Cinematic Coalition held at Cinema Detroit with the proceeds going to Detroit charities. The second being called The Revival held at The Detroit Public Theater. These events are just an example of how I collaborate with other Detroit artists.
After teaching film at Cornerstone Schools which I attended for several years. I am now the Assistant Multimedia director at the Detroit School of Arts. I love encouraging my students to freely express their emotions and ideas through filmmaking. Their perspective on how to use the art form of the film reminds me why I love the craft. Being a witness to the talent of Detroit’s future excites me.
